Posted on 13 views

Windows 10 Slow Internet is caused by too much bandwidth usage in the Windows 10 app. However, there are several ways to solve it. Just look for the steps.

Windows 10 users often encounter slow internet connections. The main reason for Windows 10 slow internet is the high bandwidth usage or the Windows automatic tuning feature.

However, there are some simple settings to fix slow internet connection on Windows 10 PC. Here are the complete setup steps.

  1. Close the Peer-To-Peer Update Process

Windows will send your internet bandwidth to share with other users. Generally, it is activated without the user’s permission.

Internet sharing aims at seeding to help other users get Windows updates. It is useful for preventing errors and malware from infecting your computer.

The steps are as follows:

  • Click on Start and type settings to open it.
  • Select Update & Security.
  • Click on Advanced Options
  • Click “Choose how updates are delivered.”
  • Turn off button.
  1. Close Computer Wallpaper Applications

Windows 10 slow internet connection will automatically slow down if your computer has a program running in the background like Spotify or Skype.

You have to turn off all programs running in the background.

Behind the scenes, apps that use many internet bandwidths include Steam, Torrent apps, Antivirus, EA Origin, and cloud sharing.

The steps are as follows:

  • Click on the Windows taskbar and open the task manager.
  • Click on the “Performance” tab.
  • Click Open Resource Monitor.
  • Click the Network tab.

Note: Check all apps or services that have a high number of sending and receiving. A higher number indicates that the application or service is consuming the most internet bandwidth.

The step to deactivate the app is to click on Start and then select Settings. Next, tap on Privacy and then Background apps. Here you can turn off apps and services that consume a lot of the internet.

  1. Disable Windows Updates

Many users assume that disabling the Windows Update feature will make the computer more vulnerable to errors and viruses.

Here you don’t have to disable it altogether. You can still request notifications be sent manually and choose when you want to update Windows 10.

Here are the steps:

  • Go to the start menu, then search for the Control Panel.
  • Go to Administrative Tools.
  • Go to services, check for Windows updates, then turn it off.
  • Right-click on it, then select Properties.
  • Disable it from the properties window.

Note: You have just disabled Windows Updates. Every time you rerun Windows Update, you will see a notification saying that the update did not install because the computer has stopped.

  1. Use CCleaner

The next step to fix Windows 10 slow internet problems is to use the CCleaner app. This software is claiming to increase your internet speed and block all viruses and malware for free as well.

A trusted program like Piriform CCleaner is worth checking out. Microsoft and Norton have also tested this cleaning program.

The two institutions also certify this app since it can clean all trash, cache files, and browser history.

  1. Remove the OneNote Program

It’s just a note app from Microsoft, like Evernote or Bear. This program is useful for collecting and organizing all notes.

To speed up the windows 10 internet connection, you can remove the Microsoft OneNote application. Below are the ways to uninstall OneNote.

  • Open Start and search for PowerShell.
  • Select Run as administrator.
  • Once in the PowerShell window, you can simply copy and paste the following command and hit enter, Get-AppxPackage * OneNote * | Remove-AppxPackage.
  1. Disable the Windows Auto-Tuning Feature

Windows 10, Windows Auto-Tuning can improve computer performance by receiving TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) data over the network.

This feature serves to connect between programs where there will be sending small amounts of data to each other.

The process will also eat up a lot of internet quota and even slow down computer performance.

To fix Windows 10 slow internet speed, you can turn off the Windows Auto-Tuning button (by default, it is activated).

Below are the steps:

  • Press on the Windows key + X keyboard and select Command Prompt.
  • Type the command netsh interface tcp show global in the window that opens.
  • Check the Receive Window Auto-Tuning Level to disable it.
  • Type again the command “netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel = disabled” (without the quotes) to disable it.

Note: You can check if this step is able to increase internet speed by doing an internet speed test.

Otherwise, you can re-enable Auto Tuning Windows Level by merely typing the command netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel = normal in the Command Prompt (Admin) window.

  1. Disable Firewall

To disable the Firewall feature, you go to Start and type firewall in the Search field to see if your computer has a firewall program active. Try disabling it and restarting it to see if your internet speed gets better.

  1. Disabling Large Send Offload (LSO)

In Windows 10, this feature is useful for improving overall network performance. LSO will force background apps to use most of the internet. You can disable it with the following steps:

  • Open Starts.
  • Select Properties.
  • Click Device Manager.
  • Click Network Adapter.
  • Look for Network Card and then double click it to open it.

  1. Update Network Driver

To fix Windows 10 slow internet after the update, you need to update network drivers. After upgrading to Windows 10, some drivers sometimes become problematic due to out of date, missing, or faulty drivers.

It is recommended that you regularly check the drivers. You can use Driver Talent. With this tool, you don’t have to do anything as the program will select the right driver and then download it automatically.

  1. Adjust Internet Bandwidth Settings

Windows will use 20% of the Internet bandwidth for the system. You only have 80% left to use.

However, you can get back that 20%. You do this by adjusting the internet bandwidth settings.

The setup steps are as follows:

  • Run the Run window by clicking Windows key + R on your keyboard.
  • Type gpedit.msc in the search box and hit OK.
  • Click on Computer Configuration.
  • Go to Administrative Templates, then Network, and finally the QoS Packet Scheduler.
  • Click on Limit reservable bandwidth.
  • Select Enabled and then change the Bandwidth limit (%) from 100 to 0.
  • Make sure you have clicked on the Apply button and then click OK.

These are the ways you can use to fix Windows 10 slow internet. If you follow the steps correctly, it is guaranteed that your internet connection will be smooth again.
